From Library Journal
After studying baby sign language with a grant from the National Institutes of Health, Acredelo (psychology, Univ. of California, Davis) and Goldwyn (psychology, California State Univ., Stanislaus) conclude that babies who are taught to use signs to express basic ideas (e.g., fingers to the lips for eat, fingers raised in a V for bunny) before they can say the words are both happier because they can communicate with others and more adept at speaking once they be (more…)

Maybe you have not seen them before, but something that makes a great gift for a new mother is a gift basket made from a baby hamper. This great option offers you a lot of room for gifts for the baby while offering mom a handy place to store the baby’s clothing once the gifts are removed. You can also choose from standard rectangle hampers or tall gift hampers or even hampers that are themed to a baby’s room. It just depends on how much you want to pay for it and how much stuff you want to purchase to fill it that will help you decide on the hamper.
You also have the option of hiring a company to design and fill the baby hamper for you. If you don’t think that you are creative or crafty enough, or you simply don’t have the time to do it yourself, a professional basket company may be the way to go. Just remember that you will pay a great deal more for a professional option than if you do it for yourself, so how much you can afford to spend (budget) is going to help you make this important decision about this gift option.

My sister has four kids, so when she found out that she was pregnant again, we all groaned and wondered what in the world she was thinking. Never-the-less, we knew that we would throw her a baby shower, even though she already has four kids, because her oldest is twelve years old, making it a long time since she has had a baby in the house. I thought for a while on the best gift to give her and finally decided to go in with several people and fill up a baby hamper with a variety of different items.
As it turns out, the baby hamper idea was a big hit at the baby shower. We were able to fill it to the brim with diapers, baby cloths, crib items and more. What was great about the hamper that we chose is that it has a lining it it that holds products to keep the hamper smelling fresh. My sister plans on not using disposable diapers so she is going to need something to help mask that smell. I was amazed, however, that someone had the fore site to include a handy device to help with the smell, but I am sure glad that they did.

When I was pregnant with my first child, I started to shop for his room well in advance of his birth. I knew that it was a boy and I did not see any reason not to purchase everything that I needed. One of the weirdest things gave me pause, however, and that was the baby hamper for his room. There were so many different styles, shapes and sizes to choose from that I started to feel a bit confused. I did eliminate right off the bat, however, a cute hamper with a soccer ball net as the holder for the cloths because I thought that the netting could prove to be a problem in the long run (with taring and such).
I was surprised that there were so many different qualities of baby hampers. For example, I had the option of choosing wood, plastic, wicker, and cloth. There were also some natural options such as bamboo and grass weaved hampers (I passed on those). I ended up purchasing a heavy duty plastic hamper that was shaped like a train. The place where the smoke comes out in a train was the area that the cloths went into, it was very cute and it looks great in his room.

Gift hampers are all the rage these days. Hampers can hold a lot more items and a nice hamper can be used in any room in the house. One of the newest trends in gift hampers is using a baby hamper to give gifts to a new mother. You can do a couple of things with a hamper like this. Firstly you can fill it with a lot of burp rags to fill it up and then put a planter on top and present to the new mother as a flower bouquet. This is something that goes over really well in the hospital.
For a baby shower, you can fill the baby hamper with everyday items that a new mom is going to need, such as baby diapers and wipes as well as burp rags, pacifiers, and baby bottles. What is great about using a hamper here is that family members who want to present a lot of gifts creatively have a great way to do it, or people who want to go in on a gift together can make a lot of small contributions that make one really large gift. No matter how you do it, this is a gift that will be greatly appreciated.
